Management guru Peter Drucker is famous for going into companies and asking senior management two questions: 1. What business are you in? (in other words, why do you exist? what are you here to do?) and 2. How’s business? He found that these two questions open up a host of important conversations and help to focus and align organisations around their central calling or purpose.

In our quarterly leaders’ meeting this week, before we launched into our agenda, we asked ourselves the same two questions. In the response to the first question, our leaders said that we are in the business of making disciples of Jesus, of bringing people together in community, of helping people to know God and of loving this world by serving our community.

As we talked through all that is happening at WMC, we were so encouraged by all that we see God doing in our midst. We also reminded ourselves repeatedly through the evening of our central calling at WMC – to help our people to KNOW God in prayer and Worship, GROW in Christ through intentional Discipleship and SHOW the love of God through generous and compassionate Mission. What a privilege it is to be a part of this community and partnering with God in God’s church!
