I spent some time this week reflecting on the open meeting we had a couple of weeks ago to dream and plan together for our church. We began that meeting with a group exercise which asked how we would like others to describe our church community. Three broad themes emerged from that process – they reveal some of our core values as a church:
1. **People matter**: We are and want to be a caring community that treats people with kindness. We are concerned that outsiders or newcomers to our church feel welcome, and that we are a diverse, inclusive community.
2. **God-centred**: We want to be a community that is searching after God – faithful, teachable and open to God’s work in our midst.
3. **Vibrant and passionate**: It may be reflecting our frustration with post-Covid lethargy :) but we clearly want to be energetic and positive in the way that we pursue our mission (to Know, Grow and Show).
No major surprises there – but helpful to hear this clearly articulated by the crowd who shared their views on that evening. How do we better express our commitment to these values at WMC?
