Nearly a century ago Archbishop William Temple famously said that "The Church is the only society that exists for the benefit of those who are not its members". I suspect that some other NGO’s might challenge that statement today, but it’s still a powerful idea – as the Church we don’t exist simply for our own benefit.
On the other hand, a church that is entirely outwardly-focused and pays no attention to the needs of its own members may find that its members soon grow weary and discouraged. Better then is to build a community where relationships are caring and supportive, a place where we feel that we belong, and where we are inspired by a vision to serve a wider community and embody God’s love in action.
So we continue to work hard at building that sense of community at WMC – starting with nametags and tea on a Sunday, extending to life-giving small groups during the week, and also including occasional larger gatherings as a congregation. If you can, we’d love you to join us on **Friday 19 August at 18h30** for an evening of Curry in the Courtyard – a fun fund-raiser and a chance to connect as the WMC community. Hope to see you there!
