I had plans for Friday morning at the office - things to do. So did Laura and Valda. It turns out though that the storm on Thursday night had other plans for us - we arrived at the church to find that the lightning had taken down the phones, computers, Internet, projector. It spared the kettle, so there was one thing to be grateful for :)

This will eventually be resolved (although the services on Sunday could still be a bit tricky ...). But life does toss us these curveballs from time to time doesn't it? The key learning is to notice how we react: are we able to retain a sense of humour and perspective? Or has life been so hard that this feels like the final straw and we respond with disproportionate despair? (you may have experienced this after a rough day when there is an unscheduled gift from Eskom ...)

I'm sure you've had your share of curveballs lately. As we prepare to gather for worship together this weekend, may we all be encouraged by the constancy of the God who is eternal, who is love personified, who is light in our darkness and who is in our corner. Hope to see you on Sunday (and all going well, we'll have most of the tech equipment up and running again!)
