In the last couple of weeks I’ve written to you here about two of the four practices that WMC offers to our people as helpful pathways to deeper discipleship. The four practices are Connecting, Giving, Serving and Worshipping and we believe that intentionally making these a part of our lives will help us to mature as disciples of Jesus.
I’ve told you before about the very large Methodist church in Texas that arranges for its members to mow its lawns every week. When quizzed about this, the pastor acknowledged that it is a major administrative headache to arrange rosters and training and organise last minute replacements and so on – it would be much easier to outsource the job to a garden service. But they persist, not so much because the church needs help with their lawn, but rather because they believe that service is helpful for people. When we serve, we are being formed – being made more like the One who washed his disciples’ feet; when we serve, it helps us to feel that we are an active part of this church community – we feel like we belong and are contributing.
At the moment, there are 105 individuals at WMC serving in different ways in the life of our community. We don’t have a large lawn to mow :) but if you’d like to get involved in some way, pick up a pamphlet at the welcome counter, or explore our app for more details.
