During this last week, Methodist leaders and ministers from the Natal Coastal District have gathered at Montclair Methodist Church for our annual synod. Over the course of three days we worshipped and ate and talked and laughed and wept together as we wrestled with the work of God in our church.
Over the last number of months we have been grappling with our presiding bishop's call to renewal and the synod spent time wrestling with the challenges facing our church and listening for God's call and invitation in this time.
I will share more with you on Sunday about what we have heard God saying to us during this synod, but what has been clear over these days is that as a church our present reality is that many of us are tired and needing to be encouraged, inspired, equipped.
But there is hope! This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday and on this day we look to the Spirit of God to be poured out on us like on the dry bones in Ezekiel's vision (Ezek 37). May you and I experience the renewing and reviving work of God's Spirit as we look to be faithful disciples of Jesus and active members in the church he brought into being. Come, Holy Spirit!
