In our leaders meeting this week we reflected on an obscure character in the Old Testament by the name of Bezalel. You probably haven't heard of him, but he has the distinction of being the first person in the Bible who is described as being filled by God with God's Spirit for some purpose. What is fascinating about Bezalel is that he wasn't a prophet or a preacher; he was a craftsman. We read in Exodus 31 that God filled him with his Spirit, giving him "understanding, skill, and ability for every kind of artistic work— for planning skilful designs and working them in gold, silver, and bronze; for cutting jewels to be set; for carving wood; and for every other kind of artistic work."

It seems then that God appreciates creativity (and we shouldn't be surprised for God is the Creator after all). How you and I express creativity will vary greatly between us - it may be with paint or music, by preparing a meal or arranging flowers, solving a problem or designing an administrative process. When we create, heaven applauds!

In what way are you reflecting the image of God in you today as a fellow-creator?
