In the loop

Michael Bishop2026-09-11

Some years ago, I had been swimming on a Saturday and found that my ears were all blocked up by pool water, to such an extent that I could barely hear anything. The problem sorted itself out by Monday, but I still needed to preach and lead services on the Sunday... It was such a disorienting experience being among people with such limited hearing and a real, albeit brief taste of the struggles that people with hearing challenges face every day.

Momentum

Michael Bishop2026-09-04

I know it's only a machine, but recently my car has felt so human. A few times, on especially cold mornings, it has stubbornly refused to start. My mechanic says it's how old starter motors often behave in the cold. On such mornings, it looks like there is no life at all in the car, but actually the engine and battery are just fine and all it takes to get going is a little push :)

Our district ministers met for three days this week at the Marianhill Monastery where we were taken through several sessions led by two addiction counsellors. I assumed I already had a decent understanding of the issues around substance abuse, but there was so much to learn about the disease of addiction and the typical recovery journeys of addicts and their families. Both facilitators were themselves in recovery and it was really refreshing to hear their openness about a condition that often still has a stigma attached to it.

Connecting

Groups

Great as it is to be all together on Sundays, it is in small groups that we experience the best of community life - friendships, encouragement and a shared journey following Jesus in the midst of ordinary life. Contact us if you'd like to join a group, or visit our groups page for news and more info.

Come and meet us

It's easy to feel anonymous in a church community, but we really want to get to know all our people. We serve tea and eats at every service and would love to meet you! If you're new, sign up for one of our regular Newcomers Tea's.

Staying in the loop

Getting involved

Mission projects

We support many worthwhile causes in our area and host two relief projects on our property - the Westville Churches Food Bank and our Soup Kitchen. Plan to come and visit these projects and find out where you can play your part.

Serving in a team

Serving forms us. It changes us from guests into hosts and really makes us feel like part of the church family. Whatever your gifts and availability, we have a team for you to join - musicians, greeters, tea / coffee pourers, tech support, maintenance gurus, designers, decorators, organisers, communicators, and more! Let us know where you'd like to help.

Giving

Ministry is made possible at WMC through the faithful and generous giving of our people. More than that, for Jesus, giving is a discipleship issue - it reveals where our heart is. Find more details about our planned giving programme here.

Questions

If you need help or advice with a memorial service, please contact our office. Your family do not need to be linked to our church - we will do our best to help.

Our minister conducts a limited number of wedding services for couples connected to our church. We are not able to host large receptions on our property.

We baptise adults (who have not been baptised before) and the children of members of the church. Contact our minister for more details.
