If you're using the Lectio365 devotional app, you will know that Friday was the feast day for the 14th century English mystic, Julian of Norwich. Julian lived in permanent seclusion in a small room attached to St Julian's church (from which this anonymous woman of prayer took her name). Her room had one window which looked into the church (so that she could join in worship services from her room) and another window facing out into the street (so that she could meet with people and offer counsel and prayer).
It may sound like a really eccentric life choice to modern ears, but nevertheless quite significant to devote one's life to prayer and then to share the fruit of that devotion with ordinary people. We may not be able to retreat into permanent seclusion, but what would it look like practically for you and I to devote ourselves to prayer and then leave a window open so that we may share ourselves with the outside world?
