"Do you trust God with your life?" That was the question someone put to me the other day. Well, you don't need a fancy theological degree to know that the right answer is "yes, of course I do" and I was nodding before the question was finished. "Yes, but, do you really?" came the reply. It is a question worth wrestling with, isn't it? In the midst of the challenges we face each day, what does it look like to trust God?

The biblical authors are quite clear: the psalmist urges us to "Leave your troubles with the Lord, and he will defend you;" (Psalm 55:22) and Paul tells the Philippians not to "worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart." (Phil 4:6).

I remember hearing a preacher once describe a little boy whose family were about to go off on a holiday trip together. He was so excited! Someone asked him "but aren't you worried about finding your way safely to the right place, and about having enough petrol for the car, and enough food for meals". "No", he said "I'm not worried. My Mom and Dad - they worry about those things."

Yes, that's a child-like response and it is naive. But we could probably all do with some child-like naivety and let God worry about some of the things that weigh us down. "Cast your worries on Him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7).
