In the services last Sunday, I shared some details about an exciting project due to launch here in the next couple of weeks. A providential meeting with a young barista is becoming what we hope will be a wonderful partnership for our community. From humble beginnings, Ndu Ngcobo has achieved significant success in the competitive coffee world, but his bigger dream is to offer hope and skills to young people in his home community.

Here's what we have in mind at the moment: From the first week of March, Ndu and his brother Andile will offer a basic menu of excellent coffee (and other hot drinks, milkshakes), muffins, toasted sandwiches from our Supper Room (sit down or take away), with a portion of every sale going towards community and outreach projects. In time, we would love to see young baristas receiving on-the-job training here.

We're deliberately starting small, but hoping to create a welcoming space in our community where everyone will feel at home - a place for hopeful conversation and friendship. By the way, I found out this week that the coffee blend that Ndu uses is a mix of Tanzanian, Ethiopian and Columbian beans and its name is Genesis. How fitting!

Give me a call if you're interested in finding out more, or chat to Gus Rohrs or Amanda Kenny.
